The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) together with the representatives of Series A and B held a meeting last Thursday, discussing the issue of resuming the Brazilian Football Championship in August, more precisely, between the 8th and 9th, with the plan to end the 2020 season in February, keeping the 38 rounds "normally". In addition, the idea of resuming in the second week of August with the Copa do Brasil was debated.

During the night, CBF issued a note saying:

"The Serie A of the Brazilian Championship may return on Sunday, August 9th. Serie B is scheduled to restart on August 8th.

The decision was taken on Thursday night, in a meeting convened by CBF together with the National Club Commission (CNC) with the participation of 40 clubs competing in two series.

The basic dates and the return schedule were proposed by the president of the CBF, Rogério Caboclo, and supported by the clubs.

The return of football depends on authorization from health authorities. But, nineteen of the twenty Serie A clubs were willing to play outside their cities, ultimately, if their municipalities are not yet cleared by the health authorities to play games. It was a sign of support for the competition for CBF."

In addition, CBF will still schedule the 38 rounds of the Brazilian Championship together with the Copa do Brasil, with two matches per week.

However, there is an standoff with some clubs that have not yet managed to return to the pitch because of the release of football in their respective states because of the city halls still being on alert at any time.

It is worth saying that the plan is still up for the games to happen without the presence of an audience, which Athletico-PR was against.

The president of Náutico, Edno Melo, was in favor of the return of series B: "Náutico is in agreement. I think August 8th is a viable date for Serie B to begin. In fact, it is still a projection, because there is no way to mark anything and this start will only be confirmed if at least 80% of the host cities release the games. It was a meeting to project a date. One of the things that was also defined is that the competition will run until February, in other words, it will jeopardize the Pernambucano Championship next year ”.
